MFA Setup with Microsoft Authenticator
Overview
This guide explains how to configure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your Microsoft 365 work account using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Prerequisites: Make sure the Microsoft Authenticator app is already installed on your phone before starting this process.
Step 1: Navigate to MFA Setup Page
- Open your web browser.
- Navigate to: https://aka.ms/mfasetup
Step 2: Enter Your Email Address
- Enter your work account email address.
- Click Next.
Step 3: Enter Your Temporary Access Pass
- Enter your Temporary Access Pass (provided in your welcome email).
- Click Sign in.
Step 4: Secure Your Account
- On the "Let's keep your account secure" screen, click Next.
Step 5: Set Up Microsoft Authenticator
- On the "Install Microsoft Authenticator" screen, click Next.
Step 6: Set Up Account in App
- On the "Set up your account in app" screen, open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- In the app, tap + and then select Work or school account.
- Click Next.
Step 7: Scan the QR Code
- On the "Scan the QR code" screen, use your Microsoft Authenticator app to scan the QR code displayed on screen.
- Click Next after scanning.
Step 8: Approve the Test Notification
- On the "Let's try it out" screen, you'll see a number on your computer screen.
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and select the matching number to approve.
Step 9: Authenticator Added Confirmation
- When you see "Authenticator Added", click Done.
Step 10: Add Phone Verification
- Enter your phone number.
- Choose how to verify (Text a code or Call).
- Click Next.
Note: If you encounter any errors while adding your phone number verification, please use your personal email as an alternative verification method.
Step 11: Verify Your Phone Number
- Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
- Click Next.
Step 12: Phone Number Added Confirmation
- When you see "Phone number added", click Done.
Step 13: Setup Complete
- Review your registered verification methods (Phone and Microsoft Authenticator).
- Click Done.
Your account is now protected with Multi-Factor Authentication using both the Microsoft Authenticator app and phone verification.
